I just read that a multiplayer feature for HED is coming shortly on your news page.

"It hasn't been officially announced yet, but a multiplayer version of the game is coming shortly. You will get a free 3 months account to play online."

It states that we get a 3 month free account. Does this mean, we have to pay monthly fee afterwards?
Will it be an expansion pack or a different version of the game?

Yeah that first thought came to mind for me to. I'm guessing it would be a monthly fee or some kind of package to play online. I guess we will find out when they return from Gamescom, .

As for the monthly fee, I will have to see how much it costs to run the server.
If it's a reasonable amount, we will support it. If not, we will charge to cover it's costs. Since I am not planning any extra revenue from this, I expect that a potential charge to be in the very low digits.

People who pre-ordered will get 3 months free anyway.
Everyone else will get at least 1 free month.

I might initially run a smaller server on the office line (25 Mbps, crashed twice only this year for 20 minutes) which will be free.

Sounds excellent and fair and yeah I guess it all depends on how big the fan base becomes along with other server necessities. I wouldn't have an issue paying in the low digits, .

Giving a bit of more thought to this, even in the worst case, we will sponsor the first 6 months at least, so everybody can play and build up a community.

Thank you much Robert, . That is how to bring your fan base up quickly. Hook them and then if a little cost is needed to keep the server up and going no one should have an issue with that, .

The studio is in excellent financial shape thanks to all of you.

I intend to spend the next year playing around with various experiments on Duality. Doing research in game-design, etc. So there is no reason for me to worry much about costs.

Also, due to the nature of the engine, I can accommodate a very large number of players on one server, bringing the cost-per-user down to a very small amount. Might easily end up being $10/year.

Anyway, there will be plenty of free playtime during testing, and by whatever the price will be, everyone will get $24.95 worth of it, free (The original game price).
